Be Green

In this era of panic, driven by the much debatable phenomena called Global Warming, everyone has a role to play. By changing simple aspects in lifestyle, one can contribute towards providing some relief to our planet.

  1. Checking your tire pressure: Make sure that your tires are properly inflated.

  • When tires are under inflated or over inflated, they require more power and thus more fuel.
  • Properly inflated tires last longer and consume less fuel and thus less emissions.
  • As well pressured tires last long and cut fuel consumption, they also are good for your pocket.

     2.  Change your lighting.
  • You do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand the simple mechanism of switching the normal incandescent bulbs to more energy saving ones.
  • CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) and LED (light-emitting diode) are such sources of light and energy that can save up to 75% of heat, last about ten times longer and provide  more light to the household.
  • The bills are cut down by a considerable amount.
  • The bulbs should be disposed carefully due to the content of molecule in these bulbs.
  • However, the amount of Mercury is still less than that in incandescent bulbs.

     3. Go Local
  • This means to be local friendly. Buying local products, having a knowledge of local market and promoting local shop keepers, manufacturers and products.
  • The amount of transportation cut down by opting for local products reduces the amount of emissions generated while transporting the international products so easily found in our local market.
     4. Plant a Tree
  • Planting a tree for cooling down the planet is one of the most famous tips.It is also extremely productive.
  • Trees are what we call natural reservoirs of Carbon. They trap Carbon within themselves and avoid the harmful gas to be released in the atmosphere. If we cut the trees, the carbon dioxide gets released into the atmosphere, which is not good at all for the environment we live in and for ourselves.
  • Whether global warming or not planting a tree is immensely important and useful for us. Imagine a walk on a shot afternoon through the shades of trees. It must be enough to convince oneself how important trees really are.
     5.  Recycle, Reuse, Rediscover.
  • In this era of consumerism, we can find everything we want and need in the supermarket  next door. Consumption leads to generation of waste and specially plastic. It is understood that plastic harms our environment. Its composition itself is such that plastic cannot be disposed easily. It does not get decomposed and when it is burnt, it sucks in the oxygen required by six people in a life time.
  • The best way to go is to avoid or at least minimize the use of plastic. Bags made of cloth and paper are alternatives.
  • Recycling and Reusing the products as well as discovering the contents of products you use, whether they can be recycled or not can actually lead to harm reduction.
     6.  Buy Organic
  • It is important to have a knowledge of the local products you buy . It is much better if the products are organic for these products conserve environment and safeguard the interest of local farmers.
  • Organic products do not use pesticides or harmful products that usually kill the helpful insects and butterflies. It also helps the soil to regain its fertility and life.
  • Organic products usually fall under the chain of local products. Buy opting for organic products, you will actually be encouraging local farmers and will create a healthy domestic market.
